This Thursday, September 27, 2018 California's 79th State Assembly District will welcome
more than 250 high school seniors during their annual Vocational Training and Apprenticeship
Programs Career Expo. The event is taking place at the Educational Cultural Complex
at 4343 Ocean View Blvd. San Diego, CA 92113 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.Over 40 organizations will be tabling the Expo including the San Diego Workforce Partnership,
San Diego Gateway to College and Career (SDG2CC), and several middle-skill unions.
SDG2CC supports students ages 18-24 beyond the classroom with paid internship placement
and individual counseling in a case management style.

Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D.
“As our workforce continues to evolve and ways of developing career pathways expand,
apprenticeship and vocational programs have become an integral part and viable option
for many young adults when considering a career field,” wrote Dr. Weber. The UCLA
alumni received her BA, MA and Ph.D. by the age of 26. Prior to receiving her doctorate,
she became a professor at San Diego State University at the age of 23.
Dr. Weber and San Diego Continuing Education’s (SDCE’s) President Carlos O. Turner
Cortez, Ph.D. will welcome visitors to the campus at 1:00pm with encouraging remarks
toward career and college pathways.
SDCE is the adult division of the San Diego Community College District and offers
70 free career training programs and free classes in Business, Digital Design and
Healthcare. Students and their families will have the opportunity to tour SDCE’s flagship
campus, automotive and welding labs and learn about college transition opportunities
to the SDCCD City, Mesa and Miramar colleges.
The event is free and open to the public.
